Boyuan Zhang

Boyuan Zhang embodies Rice’s motto of Unconventional Wisdom. Born in metropolitan China and raised in the American Midwest before moving to Texas a few years ago, he blends discipline with creativity as a Business Finance and Economics double major, complemented by a minor in Engineering Design. As Senior Treasurer of Will Rice College and an investment portfolio manager for his growing fund backed by close friends, Boyuan balances professionalism with an imaginative spark, often found building funky looking prototypes in the engineering design kitchen or battling friends over the Will Rice pool table. When he is off the clock from his teaching assistant job in the Jone’s Graduate School of Business, he is always around Will Rice tinkering with whatever inefficiencies he discovers. Pull up a chair if you ever want to hear about the latest in public finance, PC building, the business major / engineering design minor, or play a few friendly rounds of card games (He WILL deal himself a 5 card 21 somehow). He is deeply grateful to those who’ve guided him these past three years and is eager to inspire the next generation of Rice Owls.

There are people who light up a room, and then there’s Sammy Cox, a ray of sunshine trapped in a clumsy, half-blind body. Whether she’s decked out in lab gear studying organometallic chemistry, or flying down the road on her bike as one of Will Rice’s most spirited Beer Bike Captains, Sammy is both a brainy and brawny girl boss. This double major in Chemistry and Asian Studies can often be found buzzing between pipettes and beakers, chilling in Commons, or anywhere a friend is in need. She’s the kind of person who remembers your go-to boba order and surprises you with a drink, but also isn’t afraid to roast you for it. But beneath her sarcastic wit lies a heart which cares freely and deeply about her friends, colleagues, and the residential college she calls home. Sammy brings the same fearless energy to O-Week she brings to every part of her life. She will rally the troops, make you feel seen and loved, and do it all with a radiant smile. O-Week couldn’t ask for a better coord. Welcome to Will Rice, and have a fantastic week!

Who’s that pokemon?? If it’s someone wearing Snorlax slippers, playing Magic, or chugging 156 ounces of water in an hour, it’s definitely Will Kinnebrew! This 5’10” Sports Analytics and Statistics major with a minor in Data Science hails from Johns Creek, GA, yet he still complains about Houston weather. When he’s not studying at his favorite table in Commons, you may find him destroying the competition in pool or Smash in the game room, fixing our budget as junior treasurer, or practicing with the chug team for Beer Bike in his official role as a Chug Captain.
But beyond all the chaos, Will brings a deep love and dedication to the Will Rice family and culture. Whether he’s hyping people up, lending a hand, or just being a consistent presence, his energy, leadership, and care for the Will Rice community run deep. You can always count on him in any situation. He’s beyond excited to welcome you home and make your O-Week unforgettable!
